Senior Georgeanna Hoey doesn’t know what boredom is.

Violinist in the Youth Orchestras of San Antonio Philharmonic.

Competitive figure skater for San Antonio Figure Skating Club.

A model and a former track athlete.

Oh, and a slew of Advanced Placement classes and 5Ks thrown in for good measure.

“I don’t have much time for a social life but I have many wonderful and hilarious friends within my extracurriculars that keep everything fun,” Hoey said.

Campus instructional coach Sally Bratton met Hoey as a freshman.

“As a freshman and every year in between, Georgianna has had a smile on her face and determination in her heart,” Bratton said. “It always amazed me when she was in my English I preAP class that she could keep up with her life.”

As Hoey’s days in high school come to an end, she’s reflected on what she wants to do and which area of study she’d like to pursue. Hoey received acceptance letters from UC San Diego, Southern Methodist University, New York University, University of Texas at Austin and John Hopkins University.

“I have many different paths I could take in my future and my goals reflect that,” Hoey said.

Hoey plans to complete a double major in neuroscience and psychology and minor in either global environmental change and sustainability or music. She also hopes to advocate for human rights and environmental awareness, medical research, and possibly politics. However, she isn’t all work and no play.

“When I do have a little extra time, which is pretty rare, I’ll go work out or have dinner with some of my friends.” Hoey said. “Any other extra time is used for catching up on sleep.”

Despite her accomplishments, Hoey continues working hard to advance her abilities. Everyday on top of her classes, she spends two to three hours figure skating, an hour practicing violin, and half an hour minutes stretching, cross training, or running. On weekends, she adds three hours of orchestra.

“In regards to violin, I’m practicing relentlessly for a music school application.” Hoey said. “And in skating I’m working towards landing new, harder jumps successfully in competition. I also recently started modelling so we’ll see where that goes!”
