Art teacher Lauren George and her art students were invited to participate in a large community mural at the beginning of the year. The mural is to be a permanent installation housed at the Heritage Museum of the Texas Hill Country.

Smithson Valley High School, Canyon High School, New Braunfels High School, and Canyon Lake High School Art Departments all accepted the challenge and have worked together for 9 months to create a panoramic representation of what the Canyon lake area would have looked like during the Cretaceous period.

On April 13, George transported the art to the museum and was able to see the mural in its finished state.

Each school was responsible for an 8 foot wide section of the mural.  All of the students involved in the painting will be recognized during the museum’s yearly “Dino Day” Sunday at the museum from noon to 5 .m.

“Hoping to see a lot of people show up to appreciate the work the high schools did.” junior Shannon Gibbs said.

Gibbs was responsible for laying down base colors before details and finishings can be added to the mural.

Students involved included Avery Wilson, Vanessa Smith, Bailey Pauley, Morgan McLeod, Jackie Goliszwski, Shannon Gibbs, Leilani Davis, Valentina Bandur and Kaia Frantz.
