In honor of Earth Day, Humans of SV planted a Texad redbud tree near their garden in front of the rotunda.

“It was a really bare spot and we wanted to make it a look full,” co-president Julia Lafond said.

The club chose to plant a Texas redbud because the new tree would match the other two redbuds  The club members prepped the area for the tree by digging a huge pit.

“It’s nice to give back to the environment, and our school isn’t always treated the nicest because it’s a population of high schoolers, and to clean it up seems like a good thing to do” junior Riley Bridgewater said.

While some members worked on the tree, others spruced up the nearby gardens. The garden’s weeds were taken out, and members mulched the area.

“I think it’s really great that we’re helping out the community,” secretary Danielle Bateman said.
