Baseball battling Clemens for district title

With the district championship on the line, the varsity baseball team will compete against the Clemens Buffaloes today at Alamo Heights in a neutral site game.

Both teams have clinched spots in the playoffs but seeding will be determine based on the outcome of this game. The team enters the game with a 20-6 (12-2 in district) record and as the second ranked team in the city while Clemens comes into the game with a 19-8-1 (12-2 in district) record and as the third ranked team in the city.

“The game is very important to us we want to be the district champions” first baseman Jack Gibbens said. “It’s not a playoff game, but it will give us our first experience in a playoff atmosphere.”

The teams split their season series 1-1, both winning on the road against each other. This heavyweight battle should go down to the wire as both games have been decided by less than two runs with the team winning 5-4 the first time before losing 7-5 in the second meeting with Clemens. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
