The baseball team suffered losses to Steele and Canyon to open District 25-6A play.

In the final game before the beginning of district, the varsity baseball team got yet another strong win over the East Central Hornets, coming away with a 12-9 victory. With the conclusion of their non- district games, the team held a solid 10-0-2 record.

But the team stumbled out of the gates at the start district play, losing in their first two games to the Steele Knights and the Canyon Cougars

Against Steele, the Rangers started off with their usual dominant play, jumping out to a 1-0 lead through the first two innings. Heading into the bottom of the sixth, the team held a comfortable 3-1 lead; but after two scoreless innings and and a rally in the last two innings by the Knights, the team fell to Steele 3-4.

Looking to bounce back from this tough loss, the team took the field at home at Smithson Valley to take on their bitter rivals, the Canyon Cougars. Both teams struggled in the early part of the game to get runners on base, but the Rangers were able to hold a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth inning. With another run coming in the sixth inning, the Rangers held a 3-1 lead heading into the final inning of the ball game. But after a huge 6-run inning from the Cougars and a three-run inning from the Rangers, the men in blue found themselves on the losing end, 6-7.

After starting as one of the hottest teams in the city, baseball cooled its streak to open district. District play is important for playoff implications. The team’s next home game is Ttuesday against the Wagner Thunderbirds at 7 p.m.
