Boys’ basketball loses their first playoff game

Boys’ basketball lost their bi-district playoff game, 58-52, to Austin Anderson on Tuesday. They led going into the fourth, but couldn’t hold on for the win. Here’s sports editor Jackson Posey’s game recap.

Boys’ soccer lost to Clemens last Friday with a score of 3-2, though they were victorious in last night’s game against Canyon. The final score of the game was 2-1, and both of the Rangers’ goals were scored by senior Zarek Urrutia, assisted by Colton Adkins and Danny McKeague. Both soccer teams will play East Central this Friday.

The girls’ soccer team entered round two of district with a record of 4-2-1, and fell to Clemens 3-0 in last Friday’s game. Last night, the girls lost to undefeated, district-leading Canyon Cougars, 4-1, with the goal scored by Jewel Mann and assisted by Kendall Spillman. Their record currently stands at 4-4-1. 

Baseball will travel down to Laredo on Thursday for their Border Olympics tournament, which will feature matches with Laredo Cigarroa, Uvalde and Corpus Christi Ray. The tournament is just the beginning of a grueling, seven-games-in-three-days schedule that includes a trip to Houston and then a return to Laredo. District play begins March 17 against Schertz Clemens.

Softball is riding the wave of a five-game win streak, including a 4-2 win over Eagle Pass and 6-0 win over San Antonio Southside on Sunday. Next up is the Brittany Tuck Memorial Tournament in Fredericksburg, which kicks off on Thursday with games against Forney and Fredericksburg.

Golf competed in the Stampede Tournament at river crossing this past Monday, and sent five girls and five boys. They also placed third in the River City Classic and beat the Canyon Cougars on Feb. 21. 

Varsity tennis competed in a tournament in Corpus Christi on Feb. 16, winning fourth place. They also competed in the SV Varsity Invitation at John Newcombe Tennis Ranch, winning second. The team finished 3rd in district 26-6A this season, losing to Austin Bowie 10-2 on Oct. 16. The team as a whole finished with a 9-5 record.
