After getting feedback about the travel barrier between students living in the west side of the district and Memorial Early College High School, Comal school district administration developed a plan to create a new high school of choice closer to U.S. 281.

The Board of Trustees will be presented tonight with a new plan to place the new high school of choice in the unused wing of Spring Branch Middle School.

Because of Pieper Ranch Middle School, SBMS experiences lower enrollment, creating a free wing on campus.  The proposition would allow freshman next school year to attend the new HSOC to get the same educational opportunities as MECHS, without the travel issues.

MECHS is in New Braunfels, making travel for U.S. 281 corridor families difficult.  The new school would provide the Early College High School and New Technology High School education that MECHS offers.  Co-locating the two campuses allows the district to utilize existing classroom space, without building a new campus.
