Tennis is 7-0 after district rival Clemens 17-2 on Tuesday, putting the team just one game away from bringing home the district title for the first time in more than 20 years. With only an Oct. 13 matchup with Judson (1-7), a district title seems probable.

FOOTBALL

Football made the most of its final preseason game on Friday, routing Madison, 31-6. Quarterback Jalen Nutt finished with the game with 242 yards and a touchdown, bringing his season total to 465 and three scores. On Friday, they’ll kick off district play at Wagner, who is joining District 27-6A after a state semifinal run last season in class 5A.

VOLLEYBALL

Volleyball is 6-2 and coming off a huge win against Clemens on Friday.

They will have to sit on that momentum, however, as their original opponent for this week, South San, just had their tryouts Monday (per South San school district guidelines). Friday’s game against Judson also was delayed because the Rockets had to quarantine, so the team will have to be off this week.

They open up play again next Tuesday against East Central.

In other news, defensive specialist Jaci Mesa took home San Antonio Express-News Player of the Week honors with 54 digs against Clemens and New Braunfels last week.

CROSS COUNTRY

At their first invitational meet in Marble Falls, the cross country boys finished fourth overall and the girls placed third. Two Rangers finished in the top 10 of their division: senior Amalie Mills placed second for Division A Girls and senior Garrison Mangan finished eighth for Division A Boys. The team will compete this Saturday at the Southside Invitational Meet.

GOLF

Golf competed in the 36-hole Stampede at River Crossing meet, facing against more than 15 other teams. The girls competed on Sept. 30 and boys played on Oct. 5. The girls won second place with a score of 311. The freshman boys also played at Plum Creek, winning second place with a 310.
