The tennis team continued its historic season after defeating Churchill 10-2 in the bidistrict matchup Monday at New Braunfels.

The District 27-6A champions will play Westlake in the area finals at 10 a.m. Thursday at New Braunfels High School. The winner will advance to the region quarterfinals.

Bringing down Westlake, ranked No. 5 in the state, will require intense focus.

“ I think we will try and just focus on continued match play,” coach Jame LaLonde said. “We only have two practices before we play. It is a short window where we need to try and get as sharp as possible and try to put players in different situations.”

The perennial powerhouse Chaps will provide a challenge, one LaLonde welcomes for his team.

“We are doing pretty well with ourselves,” he said. “We will just have to see what comes. I am looking forward to it. Again they are a perennial powerhouse, so it is always fun to play against teams like that that challenge you and push you. Everyone has worked hard and we will see what happens.”

Thursday’s winner will take on the winner between Reagan and Vandergrif.

It is crazy that those two teams that are so good are playing each other so early.” Lalond said.
