The Crowd Pleasers competition, set for Feb. 13, remains greenlit despite canceling practices and camps because of COVID-19 regulations and safety precautions.

“We’re overcoming everything as a team and working as hard as possible,” sophomore JV Silverado Kimberly Le said. “COVID-19 has definitely affected the dance team because we were so behind due to the camp being canceled in June but we practiced almost every day in August to catch up.”

Varsity will perform kick, novelty, pom, and contemporary routines while JV will perform jazz, contemporary, and pom routines.  Last year, varsity took the title of Grand Champions at the Regional Crowd Pleasers competition and the team strives to keep the momentum going.

“We are constantly reflecting on our work ethic to improve every day,” sophomore Abigail Vlasi said.

Varsity will compete at the Crowd Pleasers competition with 36 Silver Spurs and JV with 39 Silverados.

Silverados Dance Team Director and English teacher Kayla Speaker manages her group my making sure that her dancers, especially the leaders, keep spirits high.

“Our directors and officers do a great job keeping us motivated,” Vlasi said. “They always encourage the team and remind us to keep challenging ourselves.”

While the Silver Spurs undergo daily morning, Thursday night, and Saturday practices, the Silverados practice every day during 4th period, after school Tuesdays and Thursdays, and various Saturdays.

“My favorite part of the dance team is seeing our routines come together and watching our work pay off when we perform,” Le said. “The entire team and contest keep me [motivated that] all the hard work will pay off.”
