Soccer and basketball continue playing, tennis begins spring season

Boys basketball

Boys basketball lost to East Central on Friday, 81-62. With Zayden High unavailable for the game, the Rangers allowed more points than they had since Feb. 7 last year. Kylen Morton led the Rangers with 20 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 7 of 11 from the field in the process.

Varsity’s originally-scheduled Tuesday game against Steele has been postponed to Saturday due to coronavirus concerns, although the subvarsity games will proceed as scheduled. As of publication, all levels are still on track to host Wagner on Friday.

Girls basketball

Girls basketball fell to Steele last night, 58-35. Gabby Elliott, who has been a star all year, scored 22 points and 18 rebounds. Trinity Garrett scored 11 points, with 4 rebounds. They will face Wagner at the Hangar, on Jan. 22.

Girls soccer

Girls soccer travelled to Leander to dominate the Austin suburbs. The Rangers defeated Harker Heights 10-0 on Thursday, with a tougher 1-0 win against Cedar Ridge on Friday.

To finish off the weekend, the Rangers beat Pflugerville Connally 9-0, and the goals were finished by Jade Castillo, Lucabella Davis, Wrilyn Shippey, Jewel Mann and Helene Farris. Castillo, a senior this year, scored four goals against Connally and seven for the entire tournament. The girls will begin district next Tuesday at Wagner.

Boys soccer

After defeating McCollum 3-0 last night, the boys soccer team inches closer to entering district play. Against the Cowboys, sophomore Jax Adkins scored two goals, a free kick and a goal from Colton Adkins’ corner. Senior Devin Yocham finished the third goal with an assist from junior Dayton Amaya.

The boys will play at Lake Travis this Friday, and they begin district at home against Wagner next Tuesday night.

Tennis

The spring season for both girls and boys tennis begins this Thursday and Friday. Head coach Jason Lalonde is out this week on personal business, so assistant coach Lori Albright will be taking the reins.
