Despite canceled meets and changes in coaching staff, girls and boys swim team maintained district glory by winning the District 27-6A titles Thursday and Friday.

Both teams had titles to defend, the boys with a five-year streak and the girls with a six-year streak

The team competed at the Bill Walker pool in the Northeast Independent School District sports complex.

The girls competed first, with the 200 medley relay team taking first place and a district record, with a time of 1.52.10. In the 200 free, the girls sent three to regionals, winning second, third and fourth.

Other key results were Vanessa Weatherford’s first place finish in the 50 free with a time of 25.04, and her first place finish in the 100 free with a time of 56.12. Cara Doyle also placed first in the 500 free with a time of 5.40.02.

The girls also won the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay, finishing with 211 points and the district title.

The boys competed won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1.43.00. Key results included Colin Doyle’s first place finish in the 200 individual medley, and Carter Hill’s first place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1.02.88.

The boys also won first in 200 free relay and third in the 400 free relay, securing a first place finish with a final score of 176 points. New Braunfels got second with 98 points, and Clemens got third with 85 points.
