Winter sports continue in full swing

Boys basketball

Led by Zayden High’s 31 points, boys basketball extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday with a 73-52 win over East Central. They also beat the then-top two teams in District 27-6A, Judson and New Braunfels, by double digits last week. With those three wins, they’ve climbed from 6th place to 3rd in the district. Starting Thursday, they’ll take on a back-to-back-to-back in hopes of clinching a playoff spot: vs. Clemens, at Steele, at Judson.

Girls basketball

Girls basketball lost to Judson on Friday, 94-31, to finish out their season 4-10 (5-16 overall). The loss officially closed the book on Trinity Garrett’s storied career – the star point guard set the school’s career assists record as a junior, and built on her lead this year. She’s committed to the University of South Alabama.

Girls soccer

Girls soccer continue their winning streak and district lead with a 7-0 win over South San. The goals were scored by Tatianna Herrera, Taylor Swenson, Sabrina Taber and Emma Siebold, with assists from Herrera, Helene Farris, Wrilyn Shippey, Lucabella Davis. With a 5-1 win at Judson last night, the girls will travel to East Central, who have a district record of 0-2-3.

Boys soccer

After a 5-1 win over South San and a 5-0 win at Judson, boys soccer moved up to third in district, behind undefeated Clemens and New Braunfels. The team will play East Central on Friday and Steele next Tuesday to finish the first half of district play.

Swim

Aquatics has for the most part concluded their championship season, with both boys and girls placing third in the region and first in district. The team will send Laney Skrobanek to the state championship, to swim the 100 back.

Tennis

Junior Varsity tennis plays today at Blossom T.C. It could be very rainy today so matches might be delayed. Varsity plays tomorrow at Blossom T.C. as well, though it should rain all day so matches could be canceled or delayed. 

Softball

Softball had their second scrimmage of the season. They performed very well against Johnson, Churchill, and Taft. They will play another scrimmage on Friday against Alamo Heights.
