10 out of “10 Cloverfield Lane”

New horror mystery film better than it looked

April 13, 2016

All I can say is wow. Even though this movie had so many opportunities to be otherwise it actually ended up… really good. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s probably not going to get any major awards but it’s definitely a movie to watch.

First of all they were able to make so much within the space constrictions they had. The majority of the movie is shot in a cellar for crying out loud! Although they had limited space, they really put that to good use in the psychological aspect of the film. It gave the extreme feeling of claustrophobia in some parts in which the audience could definitely relate to.

Another aspect of the movie that they particularly nailed was the character arc and development. Firstly, the way they let Michelle (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead) visibly grow as a person was absolutely magical. The entire movie she had this eternal struggle within herself and it finally comes to an end as the movie finishes. Also it let’s you grow attached to characters whether it be from their humor or their relatability.

Lastly the movie was the perfect time. It seems like a very dumb detail of the movie but it plays more of a factor than you know. If a movie is too long some people will say it was too boring or had pointless scenes and if it was too short than it lacked the depth it really needed. This movie used all of it’s time in a productive and skillful manner and left me thoroughly entertained throughout the entire movie.

This is definitely a must see. I wouldn’t watch it again sometime in the near future but it’s still a great movie that has to be seen.
