Football

Former Ranger and Thorpe Award winner Tre’von Moehrig has a chance to be selected in the first round of this week’s NFL draft.

The Valley Ventana released football’s 2021 schedule on Tuesday. The slate includes several interesting quirks, including a preseason homecoming game against El Paso Eastwood, who finished last season with an undefeated regular season after averaging over 48 points per contest.

Baseball

On Tuesday, baseball clinched at least a play-in game for the district title, and could clinch the top spot outright with a win or an East Central loss on Friday. The top seed is important: Region IV boasts arguably the two best teams in the state, Reagan and Lake Travis, and No. 1 seed would delay an inevitable collision with one of these two giants by one round. Either way, though, a potential state title run would likely include matchups with both teams.

Softball

Softball lost the last game of the season at the hands of the Steele Knight in extra innings 3-2. The loss dropped the teams overall record to 9-15 on the year and a 6-8 record in district

Wrestling

Wrestling has concluded its season, with a fourth place finish in region and sending 6 competitors to the state championship. Both Sage and Ryan Benca advanced, taking the bronze medal in their respective weight classes.

Golf

Golf finished its season, with both the boys and girls teams finishing the season first in the district, and both teams advancing to the regional championship, which just concluded on the 22.

Track

At the Region meet last week at Heroes Stadium, six athletes qualified for the state meet on May 7-8: freshman Jasmyn Singh placed first in the 400, Amalie Mills placed first in the 1600 and second in the 800, and the boys’ 4×400 relay (consisting of Kevin Uduji, Xander Miller, Tevijon Williams and Tait Maples) placed second. Additionally, Jonah Ulbricht placed third in pole vault and Sara Scott placed fourth in the 3200.

Tennis

The tennis season ended at regionals on Tuesday, with Hannah Giordanelli, Hayden Rios, Rocco Perciavalle and Luke Cantu losing in the first round. Rowan Olsen won his first round matchup and then lost in the second round. The historic season came to an end after the team  was the first to win district.

Soccer

Senior goalkeeper for the boys’ soccer team, Micah Jenkins, earned 1st Team All-Region, along with 2nd Team Colton Adkins and Honorable Mention Dayton Amaya. For the girls, goalkeeper Melyna Martinez and sophomore Sabrina Taber were named 1st Team All-Region and Kendall Spillman earned an Honorable Mention.
