Surprised by family and friends holding signs and cheering, senior Tytus Gonzalez received the KENS5 All Star Student Award Tuesday in front of the school.

The presentation will be aired Jan. 18 on KENS5.

Gonzalez was nominated and picked by Comal ISD based on his participation in community service and leadership.

The All-Star Award honors students who make an impact on their peers, school and community.

During the summer, Gonzalez worked in the marketing and communications department for Communities In Schools-San Antonio, which connected children and their families to basic and critical educational and community-based resources.

He also participates in theater and business entrepreneurship on campus.
