One of Marvel’s newer movies, Eternals hit theaters November 5th, 2021 and came out on Disney + on January 12th. 

The movie, directed by Chloe Zhao, and starring Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie and more, received just 48 percent on the Tomatometer. It is the only Marvel movie to receive a “rotten” score.

It introduces a new set of superheroes that have been protecting the Earth and other planets for millions of years from the deviants. After the team split and went their own ways to start lives of their own, they were called back together after more deviants emerged and one of their own members was killed.

It was certainly interesting to see a new side of Marvel, and to see so many new characters; however, I think Eternals was very poorly done– it was slow, and incorporated a lot of politics, unlike any other Marvel movie. 

Eternals definitely hit the bottom of my Marvel movie list. Even some of the sub-par Marvel movies have been enjoyable and fun to watch, but Eternals was long, very slow and painful to watch. It makes Marvel look like they are running out of good ideas to turn into movies.

I was so excited to watch the movie after it hit Disney + in January, but it was an overall disappointing movie. The story was confusing and rushed. The characters did not have enough time to develop connections with viewers and the movie was filled with filler scenes that didn’t matter to the story. 

Needless to say, after watching Eternals, I had to go back and watch a real Marvel movie.
