Boys soccer defeats Westlake in area championships; tennis, golf win district titles

Boys soccer edged out a narrow playoff victory over Austin Westlake on Tuesday in a game that went down to the final kick.

Boys won 4-3 in the shootout after going 0-0 in regulation and in OT. Penalty kick scorers were seniors Brad Dildy, Hayden Mosley and juniors Jax Adkins with the game winner coming from Matthew Capetillo. Senior keeper Cole Hansen had one save to help secure the victory for the boys. They next take on Reagan Friday in the regional quarterfinals.
The boys golf team repeated as District 27-6A champions as well as runners-up at the district golf tournament Monday and Tuesday. Ryan Griff placed first, Van Welborn second and Anniston McIlwain third.

Girls soccer lost to Austin Westlake on Tuesday, 1-0. The loss ended the season for the Rangers, who went undefeated in district play and at one point boasted a 22-game win streak.

Baseball lost to New Braunfels on Friday, 4-3. It was only the team’s second district loss since 2019. They bounced back on Tuesday, beating Clemens 16-5 behind Kasen Wells’ 4-RBI day. Baseball will play the Buffaloes again Friday in Schertz.

Softball beat Steele on Tuesday, 7-4, behind a complete game and eight strikeouts from Arianna Capek. Softball plays at Wagner on Friday.
