“Maneater” is a flop

Addison Coerver, Staff Writer

Actors who could not keep a straight face, key moments ruined by comic graphics and a storyline that could not travel in a straight line, even if it wanted to – those are just some of the reasons why this “Jaws” wannabe does not work.

“Maneater,” directed by Justin Lee (“Big Legends” and “Badlands), received a 17% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 3.1 rating on IMDb.

That was being generous.

This movie starred country singer Trace Adkins and Australian model and actress Nicky Whelen. In the film, the group of main characters escapes to the Bahamas to forget life’s problems. In the mix of this, they end up getting eaten by the shark.

All the stars got devoured all at once, so it ruined the suspense from the whole movie. The producers went back and forth in between different stories, making this movie a production puzzle.

The main character, Nicky Whelen, is the last alive and, a few minutes after all the action, gets found by a captain.

They take down the shark with only a few bullets from a shotgun. During the movie, producers made the shark seem as though it was an unstoppable missile; and in that moment when they needed an ending, it turned to nothing but a sack of rotten flesh.

This movie should have stayed in the drafts as it appeared little to no planning and effort went into this film.
