It’s been more than four months since production theater actors have been on the stage and basked in the applause of an audience.

But now, they’re returning, as they start on a new production of “Our Town” Oct. 27-29.

“I’m excited, but nervous,” senior and lead Tony Mossbrooks said. “I haven’t been on stage for seven months, so it’s a bit nerve racking to be back in the swing of things.”

“Our Town” tells the story of two young neighbors of the fictional Grover’s Corners – George Gibbs, played by Mossbrooks, and Emily Webb, played by senior Giavana Herrera. These two characters develop a friendship during their childhood that eventually blossoms into romance and then marriage.

The story also explores the everyday lives of Grover’s Corners citizens and how they “live life without really appreciating what it has to offer.” During the play, the people of Grover’s Corners learn how to appreciate their lives through love, companionship and marriage.

“‘Our Town’ teaches the audience about the importance of the little things in life,” sophomore Ella Winkler said. “It teaches you to savor and enjoy life while you live it and to not take things for granted.”

The set, under construction supervised by tech theater teacher James Black, needs to be in tip-top shape for the story to captivate the audience.

“Our play depends on both the setting and the actors portraying the characters of the story in order to thrive,” director Casey O’Bryant said. “It puts a lot of pressure on our actors to stay in character in order to preserve the magic of the show, but I have the utmost confidence in their abilities.”
