For nontraditional food

Austen Young, Staff Writer

For many, Thanksgiving is a very important American Holiday– a celebration of everything they are thankful for in our lives.  When  people think of Thanksgiving, it’s very common to think of traditional dishes– turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes–but it’s wrong to force those traditions onto others.

Different people have different traditions, and no one  has any jurisdiction over what others should do to celebrate.  Whether eating takeout food, homemade dinners or different cultural meals–it doesn’t matter.

Thanksgiving isn’t just about the big dinner feast. It’s about the people and the appreciation of all that’s good in life.

People can believe that traditions should be honored– it doesn’t hurt anyone to chow down on a delicious turkey leg–but the main thing is to not force their traditions onto others.

Traditional Thanksgiving meals– with turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberry sauce– are still delicious. These foods have established their place at the Thanksgiving table for decades.

However, not only is disregarding the cultural traditions of others self-centered, but it’s also extremely disrespectful to the centuries of significance that these traditions hold to the people who pertain to said culture.

No matter what people are eating–Chinese, Mexican, Greek or any other type of food–as long as they’re sitting down with loved ones, then they’re honoring Thanksgiving.
