The school board named Stacia Snyder as the first female head principal of Smithson Valley for the upcoming school year at its board meeting last Thursday.

Snyder has 23 years of experience in education, serving the last six years as head principal at Marion High School.

As a previous English teacher, Snyder believes the role of a teacher is valuable and critical in making a difference in the lives of students.

“As the leader, I value that,” Snyder said. “I want to make sure that (teachers are) doing the best possible for (their) kids.”

As Snyder prepares to take on the role of principal, beginning next Tuesday, she is hoping to make the transition as smooth as possible.

“I’ve learned a lot about what the school is about,” she said. “I’m excited to continue with established traditions.”
