Football falls short against Steele

The football team took on Steele this past Friday to open district play, but fell to the Knights 24-17.

Steele led the entire first quarter of play 7-0, but the team fired back early in the second quarter when senior quarterback Josh Adkins threw a 68 yd touchdown bomb to junior receiver Trevon Moehrig-Woodard.

At halftime the team led Steele 10-7 after sophomore kicker Mason Reid crushed a 40 yd field goal. Steele struck first in the second half with two unanswered scores to put the Knights up 16-10 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the team continued to battle back as junior running back Jaden Deaton scored a 7 yd rushing touchdown to put the team up 17-16. Shortly after, Steele scored on a 19 yd pass by senior quarterback Xavier Martin, giving the Knights a 24-17 win over the team.

The team plays at East Central on Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
