Just like Smithson Valley High School has new students, the school also has new staff members that are new as well, and they also are having to adapt to their new environment. Over the time of the second week of school, I interviewed a few of them, so you can get to know them, like they are getting to know you. This is what they had to say.

What class do you teach?

Dona: I teach statistics and precalculus for juniors and seniors.

What do you think your duties are as a teacher?

Dona: To help students do well.

What made you want to pursue teaching?

Dona: It’s a calling, the idea that teachers give back to society. It’s a good feeling to see kids do well.

How long have you been teaching?

Dona: Since 2000, as a college professor and a high school teacher.

Where else have you taught?

Dona: In Hawaii, Sam Houston High school, in downtown San Antonio and Madison High school.

Where did you go to college

Orlando Dona: San Diego State, Air Force Institute of Technology, University of Hawaii and Wayland Baptist University.

What was your favorite subject in school?

Dona: Math

Any advice for new students this year?

Dona: Be honest with your parents. If you’re struggling tell your parents. Ask for help, don’t give up too easy. Find a teacher or upperclassman, who you love. Stay away from bad things.
