The football team takes its shot at an impressive 6-0 start tonight when it takes on the Wagner Thunderbirds at 7:30 p.m. today at Rutledge Stadium.

The team comes off an open week, after dismantling the East Central Hornets two weeks prior.  The district rival Thunderbirds come into tonight’s game with a record of 3-2, including a 23-0 loss versus annual powerhouse Clemens Buffaloes.

Despite the loss last week, Wagner has shown the ability to make game-changing plays on offense, as the Thunderbirds’ have 253 yards per game on the ground so far this season. The T-Birds run-dominant offense looks to exploit the opposing defense as the Rangers have allowed 157.5 rushing yards per game during the first four games of this season.

Quarterback Tobias Weaver looks to strike as a major difference-maker in this game. The junior is averaging 127.6 rushing yards per game and has 11 rushing touchdowns on the season. When Weaver produces, this offense is a tough train to slow down.

The Rangers showed they have the gameplans necessary to shut down the opposing team’s best player in previous games. Shutting down this gritty, run-tough Wagner offense led by Weaver would almost assure a perfect 6-0 start.
