A ‘Wicked’ performance

Back by “popular” demand, the hit Broadway musical, Wicked, returns to the stage for the untold story of the “Wizard of Oz’s” Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.

After the death of the Wicked Witch, Glinda the Good Witch recounted how the witch really used to be her best friend back when they were in college. But things take a turn when they the two find out the true intentions of the “Wizard of Oz.” It’s winding ride of emotion, polar opposite friends coming together, and “defying gravity.”

As soon as the actors came on stage and the set smoothly ran in, you could tell that the cast and crew had been busting their tails to have a show good enough for their hyped audience. The costumes for the Emerald City were so intricate, with green scarves, dresses and suits. Along with the set pieces like the giant dragon and the Good Witches bubble she flies around in; the land of Oz and the college to name a few. And although the actors at some points didn’t hit their high note, it made you realize the imperfections are a reflection of their characters, not perfect and not flawless.

First opening in 2003, Wicked is going strong on the broadway scene and overall the play is very enjoyable tale as a prequel to the “Wizard of Oz” and the elements of Oz are heavily present. It’s definitely worth going to New York, so head down to Broadway and defy gravity.
