When Migos announced that “Culture II” was dropping January 26, fans everywhere began to mark their calendar for the highly anticipated follow-up from Migos previous album, “Culture”. The rap trio has taken over the hip hop game by consistently finding themselves in the top 100 charts with various features and their own released singles. Singles such as “Motorsport” and “Stir Fry” quickly became radio hits leaving very high expectations for “Culture II”.

The album kicks fast with songs such as “Supastars” ,and a solid feature from hip hop star Drake on “Walk it Talk it”. Several other good features were sprinkled throughout the album with expected artists such as Travis Scott, Gucci Mane, Big Sean, and 2 Chainz.

The best features were from artist Post Malone on the song “Notice Me” and 21 Savage on “BBO”. These two songs were probably the strongest on the album and well placed within the production.

“Culture II” had some very bright moments but did have several noticeable flaws. The first being the length of the album as it hits one hour and 45 minutes with a whopping 24 songs.

Where the flaws begin to come in start in the music comes in about track 13 on “Crown the Kings” in which Migos goes on a 4 song streak that sounds very repetitive. Several times throughout the album they fall into tracks that sound like songs that Migos would have released about two years ago. It’s also very hard to stay engaged for the full hour and 45 minutes.

The beauty with the first “Culture” was the timing was perfect leaving the audience wanting to listen longer. While this album does have some great songs, it could have been condensed to create a 45 minute.

“Culture II” is a good album but is probably better listened to as a playlist with other Migos songs than straight through on its own. The biggest surprise of the album was the emergence of under appreciated Migo,Takeoff. While the other members, Quavo and Offset, get most of the credit because of their public fame, Takeoff really had the best performance, owning every track he was on.

If you you’re a Migos fan this album does it’s job and gives plenty of material to listen to for a while. But if you’ve never listened to Migos before, in order to get their best music listen to the first “Culture” album.
