Football falls in Pink Out showdown

The slight drizzle rain covered Ranger Stadium like ablanket and the blistering wind shook the fans as they stood their waiting for gametime. Decked in pink shirts and carrying pink towels for the yearly Pink Out game, the student section braved the weather for a District 26-6A showdown at home.

However, the football team took a beating from powerhouse Judson in 28-0 blowout Oct. 19.

Judson, coming off a swift 37-11 win from New Braunfels the week before, looked to extend its undefeated record and defend a No. 11 ranking in the state. The Rangers looked outmatched throughout the entire game and seemed to miss some key players who were injured, including senior defensive back Nick Akin.

Judson struck first early minutes in the first quarter, a 10-yard quarterback scramble by Mike Chandler putting the Rockets up 7-0. The team responded with a stop of its own, before shortly turning over the ball off a blocked punt. This lead to a quick scoop and score for the Rockets as they closed out the first quarter with a 14-0 lead.

The Rangers marched toward Judson’s own goal line, but mental mistakes kept them from putting points on the scoreboard. Judson managed to intercept a pass from senior quarterback Levi Williams at the Rockets own 8-yard line. Judson responded with 66-yard touchdown pass to senior receiver and San Antonio All-Region Sincere McCormick. The teams continued to exchange blows back and forth before the halftime whistle , leaving the score 21-0 at halftime.

Judson scored once more from quarterback Rashad Wisdom with a 35-yard touchdown run before the game came to a close and left the Rangers scoreless.

The team looks to regain momentum next Friday when the play Cibolo Steele at 7:70 p.m. in Lehnhoff Stadium.
