Students had different ways to celebrate when school was let out for winter break.

Some prefer to keep it simple and stay local over break.

“I went out with family to the movies a lot. I got to watch Wreck it Ralph 2 and Mary Poppins Returns,” senior Annabelle Sanchez said. “On New Years we went downtown for the fireworks. My favorite part was watching the countdown to midnight.”

Although there are a few students who stayed home over break, there are others who traveled. Senior Alysha Hokanson traveled a little farther out of Spring Branch to spend some time with her friends.

“I did not travel very far, only to Austin,” Hokanson said. “I explored downtown and went to different record stores.”

Other students such as seniors Dalton Hamilton and John Mamalakis have traveled out of Texas to celebrate winter break. Not only did John stay in Leonville, Louisiana for six days, he was also there to see his newborn family members.

“I went to Louisiana for Christmas to hang out with family,” Mamalakis said. “I went to all my cousin’s doctors appointments for her twins that ended up being born 2 days ago. From there I just stayed home and chilled when I got back.”

Senior Dalton Hamilton spent his winter vacation in Pasadena, California for about 4 days in the relative area of Los Angeles.

I relaxed at home,” Hamilton said, “spent Christmas with some family friends from Louisiana, and spend the last week or so with my dad’s side of the family.”

He spent his vacation time with family friends for the first half and with his grandmother and aunt for the second half.

“(My favorite part was) getting to go to the Rose Bowl and have that once in a lifetime experience,” Hamilton said.
