Girls basketball prepares for first round of playoffs Monday

Girls Basketball

Girls basketball heads into the first round of the 6A playoffs at 7 p.m. Monday at Canyon Lake High School.

The girls defeated East Central 63-37 on Jan. 29. Ashley Adasczyk led the team in points by scoring 16. Torrie Palomino led the team in rebounds with seven and Brianna Grell had a block during the game as well.

The team then beat powerhouse Judson on Friday 62- 64. Down 61-62, Anika McGarity scored a three at the buzzer. McGarity scored 11 points, leading the team in points and defensive rebounds. It also marked Coach David Farber’s 100th win with the school.

Girls basketball lost to Steele 69-56 Tuesday.   

 

Girls Soccer

Girls soccer tied East Central 0-0 at home on Friday.

East Central now sits at 7-3-2 overall and 1-1-1 in district.

The tie brings the Smithson Valley record to 5-3-3 on the season and 1-0-2 in district play.

Damita Mendoza had a hat trick to lead girls’ soccer to a 9-1 win at Judson on Tuesday.

Mendoza led the team in goals and Kaitlyn Smith had two goals and an assist. Four other players scored a goal. Freshman Taylor Swenson led the team with two assists and five other players had one.

Judson is now 2-11-0 on the season and 0-4-0 in district.

The win brings Smithson Valley to 6-3-3 overall and 2-0-2.

 

Boys Soccer

Five different players scored in boys soccer’s 5-0 win in East Central on Friday.

Dane Morris led the team with two and three other players had assists.

Micah Jenkins played 80 minutes at goalkeeper and had four saves and no shots on goal.

East Central in now 1-10-0 overall and 0-3-0 in district.

Smithson Valley is 4-5-4 and 1-2-0 in district play.

On February 1st the varsity basketball team took on powerhouse Cibolo Steele and suffered a catastrophic loss of 71-50. The team has two games remaining in their regular season with San Marcos and New Braunfels. (Senior Justin Nut pictured during warmups)

Boy Basketball

Sean Bolds had 17 points in boys basketball’s 53-49 loss at Judson on Friday.

Bryan Herrera had 9 points and four other players scored.

The Rockets are now 22-12 and 9-3 in district with a chance to compete for the district title.

Smithson Walley is 7-23 and 1-11 in district.
