“Hardcore Henry” shoots out

April 13, 2016

There is no need to look deeper into this original, first-person, action-symphony of guns and violence because if you watch it for anything else, you’ll be disappointed.

That’s not to say “Hardcore Henry” wasn’t interesting or bad in any way, however, this movie was made for a specific audience: gun-loving, indie-enjoying, action moviegoers who like blood and beatdowns. A man wakes up in a Moscow laboratory to learn that he’s been brought back from the dead as a half-human, half-robotic hybrid, so what else is there to do but beat everyone up?

This one hour and 36 minute movie encompasses a sci-fi/fantasy setting in an action adventure that does well enough for itself on only a $10 million budget. Sadly, the movie flopped at release, falling to fifth place in box-office. “The Boss” with Melissa Mccarthy took first, leaving “Hardcore Henry” in the dirt. Although, it makes sense when you realize this movie loses its first-person gimmick fairly quickly.

For obvious reasons, this movie is rated R and was made to almost simulate most FPS (first-person shooter) video games. It nails this on the head pretty accurately, alluding to many themes and niches of games like ‘Call of Duty’ and ‘Team Fortress 2, even with a recaptured scene from ‘Doom 2.’

I don’t recommend “Hardcore Henry” to everyone, but if you’re looking for something to do for a good, manly, bro-down then this movie is for you.
