Softball snakebit in playoffs
May 2, 2016
The softball team slipped out of the playoffs Saturday after at 3-4 loss to Reagan at Northest ISD Softball Complex.
The loss was the second in a best-of-three series against the District 26-6A rival. Reagan won the first game 9-6 against the Rangers (14-14 overall, 7-5 in district) at Smithson Valley.
In addition to a rain delay at the bottom of the second inning, the second game was marked by a protest by the Reagan coach over the use of an Amateur Softball Association unapproved bat. According to tweets by the San Antonio Express-News, game officials “said they dropped the ball on pre-game bat inspection and SV players and coach shouldn’t be punished because of it.”
When the game resumed on Saturday, Reagan answered with a score in the second inning and two more in the third. Rangers tied it up at three in the fifth inning, but the Rattlers took the lead with a run in the bottom of the seventh.
