Nostalgia gone wild
"The Jungle Book" meets expectations
May 24, 2016
As soon as I saw the trailer for “The Jungle Book,” I knew I had to see this movie. My favorite childhood movie had evolved and matured with me, becoming a beautiful CGI film. The movie that I insisted on watching every day in day care was remade, so you could say I was very eager to see it, though my expectations were high.
“The Jungle Book” remake was one of the best movies I’ve ever seen, mostly because of the nostalgic feelings it created. While not exactly the same, this movie added more background and life to old characters.
With the familiar characters Shere Khan, the tiger voiced by Idris Elba, Baloo the bear, voiced by Bill Murray, Bagheera the panther voiced by Ben Kingsley, and the adorable Neel Sethi as Mowgli, the movie brought back all the fun memories of the original film while adding more drama than before. The movie also focused more on the wolf pack that raised Mowgli, adding new lovable characters to the mix.
The movie was able to make me laugh and get teary-eyed, which is something I can’t say many movies are able to do. While not as musical as the original, the little bits and pieces of songs really brought the entire movie together. Even though I thought I knew how the movie would end due to the original, the new movie added a few twists that definitely made the movie worth seeing.
