Glitter. Feathers. Bright colors. Glam. Not what one would expect when thinking about pumpkins, but that’s what clubs and organizations used when decorating their entries in the Great Pumpkin Contest in the library Oct. 24-28.

“I was expecting to get pumpkins that represented the different departments and organizations,” librarian Amanda Trussell said. “I was expecting the math department to give a pumpkin pi or something.”

Students cast their votes by donating canned goods or by a $1 donation with 109 cans and $10 raised going to the food pantry.

Different organizations and clubs that donated were French Club and FFA while the math, English and world language departments also entered their own jack o’lanterns to help decorate the library.

“I like fall because it seems like everything slows down,” Trussell said. “There’s only one football game a week, and you can visit a pumpkin patch on the weekend. Pumpkin spice lattes are probably my favorite thing about fall, if I am being completely honest.”
