Senior Morgan Clinton thought she would watch the inauguration of President Donald Trump in her Advanced Placement Environmental Science class.

But when teacher L. Sellers told the class they were going on a field trip, Morgan was confused.

“I thought we were just going outside,” she said.

The field trip went as far as the downstairs D wing hallway where U.S. Army Major Kevin Clinton, Morgan’s dad, waited at the bottom of the stairs, home from a seven month deployment as a reservist to the Middle East.

“We just found out (Thursday) I would come,” Maj. Clinton said.

Mom Becky Clinton, who teaches at Specht Elementary, arranged for surprise homecomings for all of her children, including Specht Elementary fifth grader Zachary, Smithson Valley Middle School eighth grader McKenzie and Abilene Christian University freshman Mikaela. When Becky reached out to Sellers, the teacher helped organize the surprise for Morgan.

“When I saw my dad, I was shocked,” Morgan said, wiping away tears.

The family’s first order of business was spending time together.

“I’m hoping I can go home now,” Morgan said.
