Football

On Friday November 24 the Rangers beat the College Station Cougars 26-21.This was a revenge match for the rangers after being eliminated by the same score they had this game 26-21. The Rangers also beat the Cougars with the same score they had in their last faceoff. 

Before the game against the Rangers the Cougars high powering offensive machging averaged over 40 points a game until being shut down by the rangers defense which held them below their average. The Rangers held College Station to 123 rushing yards, 138 passing while having 174 yards rushing and 233 passing. Defense had two turnovers which included a fumble recovery and an interception by junior safety Diego Davilia towards the end of the game which could’ve ended in a game winning touchdown by college station if not picked off. 

The first points in the game were scored by the Rangers defense with a safety with 5:27 left in the first. Right after that senior QB Ryland Walker connected a pass with senior WR Freddie Dubose to score a 51 yard touchdown with 24 seconds left in the first. In the second quarter Clayton Amaya scored a 31 yard field goal with 7:48 left and junior RB Brad Sowersbey punched in a 1 yard rushing touchdown with 4:18 left in the second. The last points scored by the rangers were in the third quarter by a 2 yard run by Sowersbey with 7:24 seconds left. 

Senior wide receiver Jackson Duffy is in the running for the best central Texas High School football player in the region semifinal round. He is currently leading with more than 37% of the vote. 

Their next game will be against A&M Consolidated this Friday at 7:00 p.m. 

Basketball

Over the Thanksgiving break girls basketball played Southside and won 51-35. Sophomore Cyanna Cavazos put up a double-double with 10 points, 11 rebound, and 1 assist. Junior Mia Perez had 18 points [5 of those being 3-pointers], 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal. 

Just recently they played Harlan and fell short losing 69-62. Putting up the first points to maintain the lead in the first quarter was junior Mia Perez having 3- 3 pointers in a row. 

This Thursday, Friday, and Saturday the team will be competing in the NB tournament and their next game will be against New Braunfles on Dec.28th.  

 

On Tuesday the Boys basketball team played temple and beat them 61-45. Led by Senior Jason Cruz with 17 points followed by Jake Goode with 15 points. 

They will be competing in the Jack Frost tournament this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Their next game will be against MacArthur on December 7th at 6:00 p.m.
