With the season approaching, varsity baseball team gears  up for what looks to be another solid year for the boys.
After a three-round playoff run last season, expectations for a similar run are high
“The work ethic of our team is really good,” head coach Chad Koehl said, but with every team you get a new identity so you can’t really compare one team to any previous team.”
While some key players graduated last year, most notably pitcher Cole McKay who now plays at Louisiana State University, returning players look to anchor the team and take on greater roles this season.
“The returners for the team are seniors catcher Chris Adams and pitcher John Kutac,” Koehl said. “We will be looking for their leadership this season.”
The team has gotten off to a good start thus far in their first three scrimmages behind some solid pitching and good defensive play. While hitting has been up and down for the team there is still plenty of time to get into a rhythm before district play begins.
The team will face some challenges in what looks to be a strong district this season with teams such as New Braunfels and Canyon, but it surely won’t derail the team from its goal of making another deep playoff run.
“Our goal is to win district, do well in the playoffs, and play in the round rock tournament this June” said Koehl.
