Senior Hannah Pape gives blood during the last blood drive on February 1.

The Health Occupation Students of America organization will host its annual blood drive Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“FACS used to run it before I stepped in,” HOSA teacher Jennifer Carrilo said. “I was planning on doing it anyway before they stepped down.”

Students must be 16 years old or older to donate and a permission slip is required for anyone under 17 before they are allowed to participate.

All donated blood will be collected at The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center in San Antonio.

“What they will do is house all the donated blood until they are called on to facilitate it to other hospitals,” Carrilo said. “A lot of times hospitals have their own stock of blood, but oftentimes those things run out, so it’s good that they can rely on the stock that South Texas has.”

All donors will be receiving a free summer T-Shirt as a thank you for their participation in the blood drive.

For more information contact Dr. Carrillo via her email at [email protected]
