For Alex and Tyler Peavy, the game of basketball is in their bloodline.
The love of the game started with their father, Ben Peavy, who played his college basketball days at Marquette University and had the boys playing as far back as they could remember.
“We’ve been playing since we could walk pretty much,” Alex said.
The Peavys played pee wee basketball together, but because of their two-year age difference the boys were never able to to really play competitive basketball together.
Coming into the season,  it appeared they would never get the opportunity to play together with Tyler entering his senior year on varsity and Alex entering his sophomore year on junior varsity. But after a midseason change bumped Alex to varsity, the boys finally shared the court.
“I was excited and optimistic when I found out that I was on varsity,” Alex said. “Tyler was the captain, so I was able to learn some leadership skills while playing with him.”
While it was the first time they played competitive ball together, it didn’t shake the Peavys.
“It wasn’t anything new when Alex came up to varsity,” Tyler said. “We’ve always played against each other in our backyard, so I guess you could say we had that strong brotherly connection on the court.”
The Peavys played big roles on the basketball team with both boys getting significant playing time down the stretch of the season. In what was a growing year for the team, Tyler had opportunities to mentor his little brother on being a varsity athlete.
With Tyler graduating and Alex getting ready to grow into an even greater varsity role next year as a junior ,the Peavy legacy will continue to leave its stamp on the basketball program.
“Playing with him was very special,” Tyler said, “and something I’ll remember and I’m sure Alex will remember for the rest of our lives.”
