The tennis team enters today’s match against East Central  (2-3) undefeated after winning its first five games. The boys remain undefeated, and the girls have lost only seven of their 36 matches.

Head coach James LaLonde urged his team not to overlook East Central despite a potential district title game Tuesday against Clemens.  For the first time, Smithson Valley will enter as the favorites.

“There is a lot more tennis to be played, before and after Clemens,” LaLonde said.

Senior Hayden Rios and Rocco Perciavalle, along with junior Luke Cantu, lead the boys into today’s match.

With the team’s top girl, Kailee Morgan, not available to play, senior Maddie Haas and junior Hannah Giordanelli will take charge.

“I think the team is really prepared for this match and will take it as a step closer to playing one of our rivals, Clemens, and winning district,” Hass said.

After previously beating powerhouse New Braunfels, the team is going into the match with a lot of confidence, which is a great thing, but pride can come before a fall.

“Our team is really together this year, and all of our hard work this season is bound to pay off on court today and in the future,” Hass said.
