Ten months ago, rugby was preparing to compete in the state championship game. Now with a mass exodus they barely have enough players to field the team.

With the season fast approaching and practices just starting up, the team is getting ready for the tournaments approaching. But they need more athletes.

“We have players but are always looking for more,” Tylar Duncan said. “So even if you’re a little bit interested it’s worth coming out to try it because it’s just so much fun. No need to worry about knowing how to play this year almost everybody first or second year and is really easy to pick up. You can contact me or follow my instagram @rangersrugbytx. And practices are right now at jumbo evans.”

Rugby is considered to be close to football but how close are they actually?

“I played both rugby and football,” Tylar said. I grew up watching and playing football my whole life and still love the game, but I can honestly say I like rugby a lot more. They are both similar in a way with tackling and technique but rugby takes a lot more stamina and you have to be able to run for long periods of time. There are also no pads so tackling is more controlled, but makes the game so much more fun.also in football usually only one or two different people touch the ball for the most part, in rugby the whole team is scoring and tackling constantly nonstop.”

Tylar had a lot emotions when they won the state title and what are his and the teams goals this year.

“After we won state last year I remember all the hard work we put in during the off-season Tylar said. Ya i got nervous before the game but i am a really competitive person so i would use that to my advantage.if somebody out played me i would take it personal. We’re moving up to D2 so the competition will be much harder but the goal is to win state again.”
