This meet will decide everything. All the hours of training and the months of early morning practices led to this meet. With COVID-19 restrictions and a new coach, this year will be the hardest yet for the team to defend from their opponents.
District is coming up, and there are preparations to be made and rest to be done.
“I have been trying as hard as I can at practice but the week before districts I start to taper down. With almost all of the meets being canceled the team is making sure to be careful.” sophomore Carson Blair said.
“With almost all of the meets being cancelled, the team is making sure to be careful,” Blair said. “We will be social distancing ourselves a lot more.”
The team says they are determined to continue their legacy and win district for both boys and girls. They have a tradition to continue.
“The boys team has won district five years in a row and they hope to continue the streak,” Blair said. “We have won districts several years in a row and I would like to win it again.”
The meet will be held at the Walker pool this year, with the boys and girls being separated. Spectators will be allowed, but only family members, and they will sit in the bleachers. Girls will swim first at 9 a.m., with their meet ending at 10:45. The boys will start at 1 p.m., and will finish at 3.
“Basically they are separating it into two groups; they have boys in the afternoon and girls in the morning,” James said.
The team is focused on the final preparations for the meet, which includes resting their bodies.
“Right now we are resting and tapering in order to have our best times of the year,” head coach David James said. “Obviously the goals are simple; we want to win and we want to qualify as many people for regionals.”
With district coming up soon, the swim team will need to be ready for a battle to continue their streak and move on to regionals.
