This is the one meet ,the one opportunity, that every swimmer on the varsity swim team has been preparing for the whole school year. An outstanding performance at regionals is required to make it to the state meet.

The team went into the meet with the same game plan as districts, to bring swimmers to the next level. 

“We are trying to get as many people to state as possible,” freshman swimmer Konner Schneider said before the regional meet. 

Preceding regionals, head coach David James had high expectations for the team, mostly qualifying for state.

“I expect all swimmers to compete to the best of their abilities regardless of their seed,” James said.

The boys and the girls swam on different days for the regional meet. Girls swam on Wednesday February 3 and the boys swam on Friday, Feb. 5, with preliminaries in the morning and finals in the afternoon.

The girls clawed their way to a third place finish in the region, behind Johnson and Reagan. The team placed third in the 400 free relay, second in the medley relay, and Laney Skrobanek placed second in the 100 backstroke.

Laney Skrobanek will be advancing to the state championship after winning second place in the 100 meter backstroke, her second time making it to state after competing in the 100 meter butterfly last year.

Boys also won third place, with the 200 meter freestyle relay winning third place overall with a time of 1:38.01. Carter Hill was a key piece of the team, winning a fourth place finish in the 100 meter breaststroke. 

With the season finally wrapping up, the team will get to training, preparing for next season. Some swimmers will move on to the next level next year, while others will work to make it to the top.
