Soccer begins playoffs, bass fishing wins fourth tournament of the year

Girls soccer

Girls soccer became district champions after beating Steele 2-0, with both goals by sophomore Jasmin Dominguez. They ended the district season with a 12-0-2 record, becoming the district’s victors for the first time in five years.

Boys soccer

With a 3-0 win over Steele, boys soccer finished second in district behind undefeated Clemens. They will play against Churchill at home at 7 p.m. on Thursday.The game can be streamed at this link:  LIVE Boys Soccer Bi District Round – Churchill Chargers vs Smithson Valley Rangers

Baseball

Baseball run-ruled New Braunfels Tuesday, 10-0, behind Brandon Taylor’s six-strikeout shutout and David DeHoyos’ grand slam. The victory extended their winning streak to nine games, including three district games. Baseball has outscored opponents 93-6 in that time, including five shutouts. They’ll try to keep the good times rolling at New Braunfels on Friday.

Softball

Softball was mercy-ruled by the Judson Rockets Tuesday, 10-0 in five innings. Lily Mcnett pitched and gave up a total of 10 hits but only allowed two earned runs. The team collected a total of two hits and five strikeouts at the plate. The next game will be at the East Central Hornets this Friday.

Wrestling

Wrestling competed in a tri tournament against Westlake, Rouse, and Bryan last Saturday, with girls defeating all three teams. The boys defeated both Bryan and Rouse, but fell to Westlake. They will next compete at Canyon on Friday. 

Golf

Golf took to the course at the River Crossing Spring Classic on March 22, with the boys winning first place and girls taking second. Notable placements include Bryce Hoech and Rowan Rankin, who took first and second place, respectively.

Tennis

Junior varsity tennis plays Thursday and varsity plays Friday at Boerne Champion. The district tournament for varsity is Monday and Tuesday. Teams have to make it to the finals to advance to regionals. Both JV and varsity won district in the fall, so hopes are high to advance to regionals.

Track

Varsity track competed at the Bluebonnet Relays in Brenham on March 13. Pole vaulters Jonah Ulbricht and Lauren Garrett won first place, with respective heights of 14’0’’ and 11’0’’. Both the girls and boys 4×400 meter relay placed first, with respective times of 4:05 and 3:22. Senior Tevijon Williams set the school record for the 100 meter dash with a time of 10:55.

Bass fishing

The bass fishing team won its tournament at Lake Belton on March 6, with a top 15 finish from junior Avery Walker. On March 11, the team placed first in the Texas High School Bass Association Hill Country Division, and Braxton Alexander and Cade Dornburg won THSBA Hill Country Anglers of the Year.
