It is 8-7 smithson valley is up Shane McGinnis is in a third set tiebreaker and Peyton Keith is starting the second set after winning the first.

The tennis team is trying to close out districts by beating Clemens; a win gives them the district title and a loss makes it a three way tie. Shane was able to win the third set tiebreaker 10-4 and peyton closed it out 6-2 6-2 giving smithson valley the district title for the second year in a row.

“Towards the end I felt confident. I knew the march was mine and was happy to close it out.” Peyton Keith said.

Last year the team beat Clemans 10-0. “skill wise we are not as strong but I feel we are all a lot more connected and there is a stronger bond” Luke Cantu said. That really came to light when the team came together down against Clemens. Cantu has had to step up as a caption this year with so many seniors graduating last year.

“I feel this year I have to be more of a leader and set an example for my teammates.” Cantu said.

The team went one and done last year in the playoffs losing to Westlake in the second round hoping to go farther this year.

“I am excited to see how the team will deal with a stronger team from other districts.” Cantu said.

The playoffs starts in two weeks and they do not know the opponent yet but they have a practise match against Clark on October 8th.
