Ghostbusters: Afterlife adds to Ghostbusters franchise

Sony Pictures

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a fun family movie that both parents and kids can go see.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is the newest addition to the Ghostbusters franchise. Directed by Jason Reitman, the son of the director of the original Ghostbusters, you really feel the nostalgia in this movie. It follows a lot of the same beats as the original while still feeling like its own film.

Phoebe, played by Mckenna Grace, stole the show as the weird scientist girl who tells dad jokes and is the granddaughter of Egon Spengler, one of the original ghostbusters. Podcast, played by Logan Kim, was the comedic relief and had great chemistry with Phoebe. Paul Rudd was his charming self in this movie, but he doesn’t play as big of a role as the trailers make you think.

Trevor, played by Finn Wolfhard, did not play a major role in the movie, but has a little love interest played by Celeste O’Connor, and  they are just bodies to put in the jumpsuit for the last act. The end of the second act and beginning of the third act was almost the exact same as the original Ghostbusters.

The biggest surprise of the movie was when the original Ghostbusters came to help battle the villain at the end of the movie.

This movie was very entertaining, with a lot of funny jokes and a really good story line. The biggest thing that I think hurts this movie is that it uses the same villain as the original Ghostbusters and follows a lot of the same beats towards the end.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife has all the elements of a great movie; it has comedy, but is serious when it needs to be and doesn’t undercut it with jokes,  it lets the drama and emotion fester for the perfect amount of time, and it has a great cast lineup. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend you go see it with friends and family.
