It’s throwback time
This year’s halftime show starred old rappers

This year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show definitely took the bar to the next level.
The stage was in a Compton, with the floor a map of Los Angeles. Dr.Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and Mary J.Blige all performed at their peak, with a surprise performance from 50 Cent. It’s the first time five artists performed as part of the main act.
Dr.Dre and Snoop Dogg started the show off with “The Next Episode” by grabbing the audience’s attention and setting the mood. Snoop was just himself and gave an enjoyable performance that threw many parents watching from home a little trip back to their teen years.
Transitioning to 50 Cent performing “In Da Club,” the camera zoomed out its focus to 50 cent hanging upside down recreating what he did in the original music video. It was definitely one of the more visual performances, but yet again done very well.
Then came Mary J.Blige with “Family Affair” (her first No. 1 single) and “No More Drama”.
Kendrick Lamar performing “M.a.a.D City” gave the audience an entertaining show as he involved his body language, moving jaggedly and fluently. The backup dancers were a big help as they added spice. “Alright” opened with the cameraman whipping around to Lamar as the backup dancers changed the setting.
The transition from ‘Forget About Dre” from Lamar to Eminem was breathtaking. Out of nowhere the hidden Eminem starts his strong verse while rising to the roof. Eminem performed “Lose Yourself” to set the vibes of the Super Bowl even higher. The audience was 100 percent engaged.
In the closing, the performers paid tribute to Tupac by playing a quick snippet from “I Ain’t Mad at Cha.” The last song “Still Dre” was a great end with them bringing the Compton outfits out for the backup dancers. All performers standing on the main roof of the building gave the show a movie-type ending.
This year’s Super Bowl Halftime show was a peak performance and set the standards for future shows. Even though artists had 11 songs, they flowed and transitioned well and the mix was the best way to show the old rap style.
The stage was one of the biggest surprises as well. It wasn’t just an ordinary building but was a shop type of center in Compton.
This year’s show was definitely a 10 out of 1o and one the best performances to date.
