The Oscars to be announced Sunday.
March 25, 2022
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present the 94th Oscars Sunday at the Dolby® Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC
“Dune” (remastered) 2021 directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Zendaya, Timothee Chalamet, Oscar Issac, Jason Mamoa and Jessica Ferguson is nominated for 10 Oscars. “Dune” part one, based on the novel by Frank Herbert stomps on the Dune 1984 version’s face.
As someone who has never read the book, I have absolutely no qualifications to compare the movie, but I thought it was great. Throughout the duration of the movie all I could think was, “This movie is so awesome.” So I can understand why it’s been nominated for 10 Oscars, which almost guarantees it to win at least one.
Every scene in the movie was a work of art. Without much dialogue, it allows the cinematography to be exemplary. The other nominees can’t compete with the cinematography of “Dune.” If “Dune” only wins one Oscar, it would certainly be this one.
“Dune” also has a lot of potential to win the awards for writing (adapted screenplay). Book fans love the adaptation of “Dune” as it brings the pages to life on the big screen. I as a viewer was able to understand the movie with no familiarity with the book.
Sound nominees include “Belfast,” “No Time to Die,” “The Power of the Dog,” “West Side Story” and “Dune.”
The nominees for best costume design’ include “Dune,” “West Side Story,” “Cruella” and “Nightmare Alley.” “Nightmare Ally” had some great costume designs but nothing too memorable. “Dune’s” costumes have been seen before in other fantasy book-to-big-screen adaptations.
