Netflix just came out with their newest limited series, “Devil in Ohio”

The show starring Emily Deschanel ( Animal Kingdom) who plays Suzanne Mathis and Madeleine Arthur ( To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before) who plays Mae, is based on the novel written by Daria Polatin.

This show was a slow burn suspense, and very entertaining. The acting wasn’t top notch, but definitely not the worst I’ve seen.

This show does talk about some serious and grim topics such as self harm and child abuse, so trigger warning to those thinking of watching it.

The story is about a young girl who escapes a satanic cult and is taken in by a psychiatrist who is a domestic abuse survivor. The show follows the family as they try to adapt to their new way of life living with this girl and the challenges that come with her presence.

The show was released September 2, 2022 and has already received a 50% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6/10 rating on IMDB.

If you’re looking for a show to pass the time or have on in the background, this show is for you. It has some intense moments, but nothing that’ll make you jump out of your skin.

The show got a little slow in the middle and had some unnecessary “teenage drama” moments, that I just didn’t feel added anything to the story and were just there to fill time.

Watching the show, I noticed the the importance of imagery and how much time the directors put into them. The significance of the “white roses” representing Mae’s past and the “crows” representing the cult and the dark mindset that is still within her.

The soundtrack also played a big part in why I really enjoyed this show, the “theme song” if you will, “Lessons of Fire” by Bishop Briggs, is such a haunting song, that is perfect for the central idea of the show.

I genuinely enjoyed this show, it was a good, short binge. I wouldn’t mind watching it again, and I’m hoping for a season 2.
