October 4 is National Taco Day.

San Antonio is often referred to as the breakfast taco capital of the United States, but look no further than your local Spring Branch businesses to get some of the best breakfast in town.

Because today is National Taco Day, and conveniently Taco Tuesday, here are the best four breakfast taco joints in Spring Branch.

Texas Tacos

19750 TX-46 #107, Spring Branch, TX 78070

Unlike El Jalisco, the beans are inconsistent. The line in the morning is horrible when trying to get breakfast, especially when trying to get to school on time. The inside has a tiny seating space as well.

All the tacos need a bit more salt, but my favorite is the potato and egg, which I’d rate a 7/10. The bacon isn’t very crunchy so I’m not a huge fan of the bean and bacon, and the cheese isn’t melted on the bean and cheese.

Additionally, the tortillas are not very fluffy, and the barbacoa is seriously disappointing.

Overall Rating: 5/10

El Jalisco

17130 TX-46, Spring Branch, TX 78070

Personally I think this is the place to eat if you are craving Mexican food. The beans have a really nice consistency, and everything including tacos and plates are seasoned to perfection. There is also great customer service. It’s easy to get and go if in a hurry for work or school if you’re trying to get your morning tacos.

The tortillas are soft. Their barbacoa taco is surprisingly very good because it is hard to find a good barbacoa taco from places. Their migas taco is good because the chips in the taco stay crunchy and the eggs aren’t dry. Cheese is melted, bacon is crunchy, tortillas are soft and fluffy.

Overall Rating: 8.5/10

Rico’s Tacos

30070 US-281 #242, Bulverde, TX 78163

Rico’s Tacos has well seasoned tacos, and the tortillas are made freshly. I think the beans are too runny for me. Happily the cheese is melted, which helps the taco. For the bean and bacon taco, the beans are again too runny but the bacon is nicely crisp.

Their barbacoa taco has a lot of salt–maybe a little too much salt for me.  Aside from the salt on the barbacoa, the taco is an 8/10.

Overall: 7.5/10

Ay Chiwawa!

403 Singing Oaks, Bulverde, TX 78070

Ay Chiwawa lacks a crazy amount. I’m going to start off by saying if you love crunchy stuff, you will love this place. Their tortillas are fluffy and freshly made in the back.

Most of the things there need a lot of seasoning, especially salt. I don’t think tacos are their specialty at Ay Chiwawa. I recommend that you just get a plate.
